The Heat haven’t been able to find a taker for Kyle Lowry and may not be able to work out a significant deal before the deadline, writes Sean Deveney of Heavy. Sources tell Deveney that Miami had Lowry trade offers rejected by the Nets, Mavericks and Timberwolves and wasn’t able to generate much traction with any other team.
Lowry’s age (36) and contract (fully guaranteed at $29.68MM next season) have been major impediments to finding a trade partner. In addition, he has been limited to 44 games because of injuries, including a current bout with left knee soreness that could sideline him through the All-Star break.
The Heat also haven’t found much of a market for Duncan Robinson, who is under contract for $57MM over the next three years, although the last season isn’t fully guaranteed. Robinson has seen his playing time reduced this season and underwent finger surgery in January. Deveney suggests Miami will need to attach a future first-round pick and a young player to trade Lowry or Robinson, and he notes that some teams have expressed interest in rookie Nikola Jovic and Max Strus.
“They thought they were going to have more assets at this point, that Robinson might be playing better, that (Victor) Oladipo would be better, that Omer (Yurtseven) would be better, that Strus would be better, that Lowry would have value,” an NBA executive told Deveney. “That is why they were confident they would make a move. But they missed on pretty much all of those bets, and it is going to be hard to pull something off.”
Deveney passes along a few more rumors:
- The Suns appear willing to accept Caleb Martin from the Heat in exchange for Jae Crowder, but Miami is reluctant to part with Martin, who is 27 and has an affordable contract. Sources tell Deveney that Phoenix is talking to several other teams about Crowder, including the Nets.
- The Cavaliers likely won’t deal for another wing if the cost is Isaac Okoro, according to Deveney, who notes that Cleveland has discussed Josh Hart with the Trail Blazers, Bojan Bogdanovic with the Pistons and Malik Beasley with the Jazz.
- The Celtics aren’t exploring Grant Williams trades before the deadline, Deveney adds. Although Williams will be a free agent this summer after not reaching a contract extension, Boston prefers to hold onto him at his current bargain price of $4.3MM and may consider a sign-and-trade in the offseason.
- The Warriors are listening to offers for Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody and James Wiseman, but Deveney hears that their trade value may have decreased from a lack of playing time.
I think Caleb Martin is on the Heat. Love his game and remember he and his brother back to the Nevada days. They’ve really hustled their way and worked their way into nice NBA careers.
What about the NC State days
I never saw them there only at nevada.
Good, the Heat deserve to be stuck with those 2, I hope Lowry just retires.
Okoro has been a beast since being a starter again. I think Cleveland should deal for a low cost sharp shooting 2 and trade for McGee to back up Allen and then all it taks is experience
Even dean wade is a sharp shooter. They are deep everywhere but center the buy out market should open up plenty of options
Warriors already said that they will not trade Kuminga unless its for a allstar player. No reason to trade him he can put up 15 points a game and play great defense.
That is pure posturing. Kuminga has taken a major step back this season.
You’re on crack!! He has stepped up big time!!
Kuminga barely averages 15 points per 36 minutes and that is against the 2nd unit of most teams. Relying on him to score that much at this early stage of his career would not be smart.
Kuminga on a bad team would score 20 points a game. He is on a team with 4 scorers so he doesn’t get the shots. Youngest player ever on Warriors to score 1000 points in his career. His defense is what is shinning right now.
All 3 warriors are so young. Assessing them now is literally premature
What did they offer tho? 27 unprotected 1st and a 2nd should be enough to pry their way into the lakers-Jazz-wolves trade.
Did they offer the Nets a 1st in a deal taking Ben Simmons? How do the Nets reject that if they did?
Kuzma for Wiseman and Moody + pick sweetener
Both Team Wins
Wizards should definitely say yes to this
Why would the Warriors say yes? It just creates a log jam in the front court.
Kuzma can play 3 at times
There is no reason to move Lorwy or Robinson in any deal that doesnt bring back a significant option on the wing/4/smallball 5. The Heat havent used the rotations I would have liked to see them use this year, and both guys have unfortunately been injured recently, but they need both guys. Lowry is slightly more expendable b/c of Oladipo, but still should only move him In certain scenarios. They desperately need Duncan’s spacing
Caleb Martin should not be moved
If your a rebuilding team you have to be throwing a good offer at the Warriors for Kuminga, Moody and Wiseman.
1. Wiseman and Moody for Mo Bamba, RJ Hampton and a future first round pick and this years second round pick
Great for Orlando and their rebuild. Mo and RJ both on the outer but Wiseman and Moody both have really good potential and will preform well.
For GSW they get Mo who would be a solid back up centre. Blocks shots and can space the floor, really hard worker and really smart guy. RJ also has potential just needs to develop a shot.
2. Jonothan Kuminga and Ryan Rollins for Saqid Bey and Isiah Livers
GSW gets Bey who would be a really solid wing for them. Decent shooter who would get better under their coaching and game style and nice defender. Livers would be a solid 4/5 big for them also. For the Pistons Bey has had a reduced role this season and Livers hasn’t been able to beat out Boban or Bagley and with the rise of Duren and Stewart looks set for a smaller role. Kuminga could be a solid move as a 3/4 with solid athleticism and potential fit alongside Cade and Ivey.
Could even combine both
Wiseman, Kuminga, Moody and Rollins for Bamba, Bey, RJ, Livers, a 1st and a 2nd.
4 young players for 4 young players plus 2 picks.
Knicks go get Kuminga and start him at the 3. Please …………
