As reported earlier on Tuesday by The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Bulls and Zach LaVine are increasingly open to the idea of exploring a trade with potential suitors “probing” LaVine’s possible availability.
LaVine could indeed be open to a change of scenery, which he previously dismissed, K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
LaVine has been extremely loyal to the organization and will remain professional during the process, but Johnson notes that the star guard is still smarting from Billy Donovan’s high-profile benching of him. There are also members of the organization who remain unconvinced of LaVine’s consistency as a lead option on a championship-contending team, Johnson adds.
However, Johnson also cautions that a potential trade remains unlikely in the near future. Management began the season fully committed to returning to the playoffs and it’s still very early in the season. Also, the trade market doesn’t usually heat up until after December 15, when most players who signed free agent deals during the offseason are eligible to be traded.
Johnson also points out the Bulls held exploratory trade talks regarding LaVine during the offseason but had a very high asking price. It remains to be seen whether the front office will lower its demands.
Here’s more on LaVine:
- Which teams ranks highest in terms of potential landing spots for the high-scoring wing? The Lakers are No. 1 on the list put together by NBC Sports’ Kurt Helin. A package of D’Angelo Russell, Rui Hachimura and Taurean Prince, plus a 2029 first-round pick, could be the framework of that deal, Helin suggests. The Sixers have multiple first-round picks plus expiring contracts to dangle. The Grizzlies, in need of another impact player to join Ja Morant once the point guard’s suspension ends, could package several young players and draft picks to land LaVine.
- Pump the brakes on a potential Sixers offer for LaVine, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Keith Pompey. The Sixers are happy with how their season has unfolded, and will likely wait to explore trade opportunities when needs become more evident, Pompey writes. They’d also have to be convinced LaVine is the missing piece to a title, since the Sixers could have more cap space than any other team next season.
The Bulls need to realise that Donovan is a large oart of their problems…
Betting on LaVine to be your number 1 option was a mistake, more of a 3rd option, but having Donovan there has been a bigger mistake…
If the Lakers can get off of DLos contract I think they will… But they’ll get out bid…
I would love to see LaVine and willing to offer top dollar
2 second round draft picks and lifetime supply of PhillyCheesesteaks
But seriously, I would not know what to offer
Da Bulls
No….just, no
No way Bulls take that deal from lakers. Prince is 29 and a FA. Russel is a 6th man. So all they get is Hachimura and a 1st round pick. lakers keep Prince and send Christie and Hood instead to make the deal fair.
Lakers add lavine and it willl go the same way as the other la teams trade for harden ! Will take them even further away from the nba finals then they already are
LaVine is horribly overrated. Not saying he isn’t extremely skilled, but he’s not either a guy to build a team around, or even the missing piece to bring a team a championship.
He’s effectively Joe Johnson circa 2023. Puts up 25, 5, and 5 on better than average shooting numbers, but his teams don’t win. It’s not a horrible thing as there have been a tonne of these guys through league history (Shareef Abdur-Rahim, etc). Every team needs/has a guy that puts up 20+ a night and is athletic, but not every one of those guys affects winning.
Giving up more than one young rotation player, expiring deals and 2+ picks is too much for a guy like LaVine, but someone’s going to pay that or more. Hopefully they don’t regret it.
Don’t disrespect Joe Johnson like that. I would rather have Joe Johnson right now than Zach (everything considered)
Can give you Wiggins for Zach
Trying to make GS worse. Are you a GS fan?
Any chance Bulls want Air Canada for Lavine?
Why is this story in my Heat feed?
Heat need players have been linked to high profile guards on the market this summer. You don’t want to know that Zach LaVine is available?
The tool we use for tagging players and teams finds all the ones mentioned in a story, then we manually take out the ones that don’t apply. In this case, the use of “heat up” meant the Heat got tagged and Dana missed removing it. It has been removed now.
Thank you! That was scary for a minute
Lavine not going to make any team better…and he looks like a mean mf.
He looks like a baby. Mean MF lol. What streets do you live on lol
He never smiles and always has an annoyed look on his face.
He shouldn’t be at all. I would be smiling with all that money
If the Bulls can get a young PG and a usable 4 for LaVine, then they should do it in a heartbeat. If they can get some picks with it, that’s just a bonus.
They need to target a team that’s desperate to make their next jump, that’s likely the only way they’ll actually walk out a winner.
This deal needs to be foolproof, meaning there isn’t any way their management can mess it up.
Although, honestly, I have very little to almost no faith in them to pull off a winning deal.
LaVine is basically Bradley Beal, CJ McCollum, someone of that ilk. Very skilled guard, not a true no. 1 option for a title contender, but not a Top-25 or Top-30 player despite that. Very ball dominant, so he is going to be a tough fit with 2 ball dominant players already on a team.
So, maybe OKC is a good fit?
i’ve seen enough Bulls game as a Sixers fan to know i don’t want Lavine. He is not as good as his highlights and box score.
The Mavs make a lot of sense.
Actually, yeah. But what do they have that the Bulls would want?
Derozen all day.
As a lifelong Bulls fan, I think he’s the most overrated player they’ve ever had.
I can’t wait for them to trade him for anything. Then, they need to trade DDR. Then, they need to fire Donovan. Then, they need to fire AK. Then, they need to sell the team to a completely new ownership group.
It’s so much fun being a Bulls fan.
why are the heat tagged on this? lol
They target such players
unless the bulls took Lowry’s expiring contract and the heat were willing to play herro at the 1… it would make ZERO sense for the heat to be interested in lavine… seriously ZERO lol.. for context Herro has better stats than him and that includes a game he left in the middle of the first quarter with injury
Nets, Jazz, (for Sexton and more)NY(Evan F and something) or the clippers (for Harden) are the only spots he fits
I wouldn’t trade Rui straight up for LaVine.
Friendly contract.
Good 3-PT shooter.
Good finisher on the break.
Can guard the 4, sometimes 5.
No injury history.
