Sixers forward Kelly Oubre has been cleared to play on Wednesday after going through a full practice on Monday, Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Oubre has been sidelined since Nov. 10 due to injuries suffered in a reported hit-and-run accident. Oubre, who was signed to a one-year contract as a free agent, was off to a hot start before the incident, averaging 16.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.
Oubre was reluctant to share details about it due to an ongoing police investigation. However, he’s upset that some people have expressed doubts about his story.
“This was and is a very traumatic situation for me and my family,” Oubre said. “I just wish that my life wasn’t The Truman Show, where everybody can kind of watch it and have their own opinion about my life. This is very hard for us to have to deal with — and for me to miss being on the court, which keeps me sane. A lot of people are very inconsiderate and insensitive to try to worry about video cameras and [stuff] about something that happened with my life, and it’s very detrimental to me and missing time with my job.”
We have more on the Sixers:
- James Harden told Sam Amick of The Athletic that he was promised a max deal by the Sixers front office. However, Marc Stein writes in his latest Substack post that he spoke to a Sixers source on Monday who refuted Harden’s claim. According to Stein’s source, no such promise was made after Harden agreed to a two-year deal with a player option in the summer of 2022.
- The 76ers have thrived since the Harden trade and Yaron Weitzman of Fox Sports details how coach Nick Nurse and top exec Daryl Morey put plans in motion even before the deal was made. They were tweaking schemes in order to maximize the team’s potential without the mercurial guard. Nurse also gave Joel Embiid advice on how he could be more effective in the postseason. “Just having more variety and less predictability,” Nurse said. “Not having the same rhythm to every game, not doing the same thing over and over, just making things a little bit more unpredictable. That way [opponents] don’t know what’s coming as much, and you’re hard to prepare for.”
- Embiid and Tyrese Maxey were both at Sixers practice on Monday after missing Friday’s game at Boston due to illness, Gina Mizell of the Philadelphia Inquirer tweets.
Haven’t seen his name linked yet… but if Lauri Markkanen is available, who would you push chips in for… Markkanen or OG?
Same premise of a trade. Picks + Roco or Batum gotta pick 1, Furkan, and Springer.
Otherwise it’s like Bamba, Furkan, House, Springer, and KJ just to get to 15.8M.
Lauri is a lot more polished of a scorer, obviously not as good a defender as OG.
Who would you target if you could have 1.
Both guys are worth more than that, if both were made available the price would likely be a decent player and 2 firsts or a good player, a young player and a first
However I think OG is better. Think he suits being the third best option on a lot of teams and would make them titles contenders. Very much in the same ilk as Kris Middleton.
OG as a catch and shoot 3&D ideal fit, I agree. I know he was disgruntled about his role tho in Toronto, wanting to be more involved in the offense. Now of hes getting paid max money, does he care? Idk, but he also may get that Tobias treatment. Is he ready to handle that?
For any trade tho I believe the Sixers can now trade 3 FRPs? Might be enough ammo. They could trade for Lauri this yr and sign OG in the offseason. I think they’d have enough cap space to do so. His team option is only 18M, and it’s a team option.
If they make any move this offseason either the intent of signing a major FA in the offseason, they have to renounce pretty much everyone on the roster tho, and then abide by normal FA rules.
But a year from now they could have a roster of Embiid, Lauri, OG, and Maxey.
OG has a player option, not a team option, allowing him to become a FA if he wants. Think that was what you meant.
Lauri is a great fit; that kind of offensive frontcourt punch, a stable wing like Tobias, and Maxey becoming a potential All-NBA player like he is? Dang.
OG likely would have to play at the 2 (which he does without much change one way or the other) since you’d rather have RoCo or Morris at the 4 to ensure opponents can’t just load up on Embiid in the paint, but he’s also worth pursuing if you can only get one.
Your scenario is an ideal one, but if the Sixers can pull it off, that’s a *scary* potential lineup. The only potential problem I see is that OG wouldn’t get that larger offensive role on a team with Embiid, Maxey *and* Lauri. He’d be even less involved than in Toronto in that case, tbh.
No I was referring to Lauri, he has a team option so if you traded for Lauri, you got him 2 years and OG you could target as a FA.
But yea not a lot of basketball to share. Someone will be unhappy with their role.
Ahh, got it backwards because OG’s player option is about the same value. Thanks.
Shame Oubre just can’t admit he lied and tell truth of how he got hurt.
He didn’t want to expose your momma like that.
So the rumors of him being. robbed by a hooker are true then.
Why is it a shame? If you love gossip so much watch the Real House Wipes. Otherwise there are other sixers playing basketball you can focus on…smdh
