11:05am: The Hornets have made it official, announcing in a press release that Bolden has signed his 10-day contract. It will run through February 29.
7:36am: The Hornets are set to sign big man Marques Bolden to a 10-day contract, agent Michael Johnson Jr. tells Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link).
Bolden, 25, has past NBA experience with the Cavaliers and was on a two-way contract with Milwaukee earlier this season. However, he only appeared briefly in two games with the Bucks before being waived on January 7 before his full-season salary could become guaranteed.
Bolden has spent most of the season in the G League playing for the Wisconsin Herd, Milwaukee’s affiliate. In 31 Showcase Cup and regular season contests, he has averaged 13.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks in 25.0 minutes per game, with a shooting line of .554/.404/.743.
As Charania observes, the center has played some of his best basketball of the season as of late, averaging 17.0 points and 13.8 rebounds during the Herd’s current six-game winning streak, with double-doubles in all six of those victories.
Bolden will provide some depth in a frontcourt that has been impacted by Mark Williams‘ lengthy absence due to a back injury. Nick Richards has been starting in Williams’ place, but the Hornets don’t have a ton of options at the five beyond that, especially with P.J. Washington no longer around to occasionally act as a small-ball center. That means there could be a path for Bolden to earn playing time.
No roster move will be necessary for the Hornets, who have been carrying 14 players since buying out Kyle Lowry last week.
Did someone mention Kai Jones??
In Silvers eyes he is the only one who has done anything wrong. Rollins just stole another job, Miles is back to beating , Giddey is Giddeying around, Primo is showing everyone what he is made of, Morant does what he wants over and over and Porter jr will be back soon. Meanwhile Kai Jones is a horrible person
The majority of the players you mentioned are actually good at basketball. Kai Jones has enough issues that even a G-League team didn’t pick him up, but they picked up Kevin Knox and Marquese Chriss.
Chriss is a punk cheapshot artist and Knox(why pick on Knox) has nothing wrong with him as we know. Kai Jones didn’t get a chance to play. The NBA and their minor league is blackballing him because of drugs (big difference). Rollins has done less than Kai Jones in the NBA. So because they are okay at basketball so it’s okay to wreak havoc on everyone? You said Kai Jones has enough issues nobody wants him…. What issues are worse than anyone I listed? So again to Silver and alphathon10, Kai Jones is the worst of the human beings in the lineup of Miles, Porter jr, Rollins, Primo, Giddey etc etc etc. kai Jones has more problems than everyone says alphathon00 lol
Morant, Knox and Kai Jones are better human beings than everyone listed above.
What I meant to say, Mr. NEVER has a good take, was that he has enough perceived issues that no one in the league wants him. I included Knox cuz he is a bust lmao. The NBA isn’t blackballing Kai Jones of all people. I never defended any of the dudes you listed, but Giddey, really? The only one on the list who wasn’t proven to have done anything. Go make a garbage fake trade proposal somewhere
My trade proposals are top notch bro. Thanks for the clarification
What do you think of the Bolden signing alphatron10
Kai at minimum showed he wasn’t a PROFESSIONAL. He forced an NBA team to waive him from a multi-million dollar contract. Why would he show up to a G-League team paying 50K?
Why does he deserve a chance? Additionally, if the league doesn’t think he’d pass a drug test, they are saving themselves the PR hit. Kai isn’t employable. There are other basketball leagues who would take a flyer on him.
They all should be drug tested but Silver wouldn’t do that. So everyone should get a second chance and not Jones. Rollins stealing everything and has a job already
Butt hurt people in here hating on Kai Jones
Kai Jones has more issues than National Geographic. That’s why he is unemployed. When and if he ever gets his act together, maybe he will find gainful employment in the NBA again. But one look at his Twitter feed will tell you all you need to know about his mental state. He is not in any condition to be playing basketball for anyone and that’s why he’s not playing basketball for anyone. The only person butt hurt about it around here seems to be you.
