NOVEMBER 27: The Kings have officially signed Crowder, the team announced today in a press release.
Assuming Crowder signed for one year and the veteran’s minimum, which is highly likely, his deal would pay him $2,620,232 for the full season, with Sacramento taking on a cap hit of $1,655,619.
NOVEMBER 26: The Kings are close to signing veteran forward Jae Crowder, Shams Charania of ESPN tweets.
Sacramento worked out Crowder back in September. Crowder spent a season-and-a-half with the Bucks beginning in February 2023 and averaged 6.2 points and 3.2 rebounds in 50 games last season while making 25 starts.
Crowder has appeared in over 800 regular season games since making his NBA debut in 2012. The 34-year-old has averaged 9.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 25.0 minutes per contest across 12 seasons, posting a shooting line of .419/.348/.777. In his prime years, he played a key three-and-D role on contending teams in Boston, Cleveland, Utah, Miami, and Phoenix.
The Kings have an open roster spot and are $3.7MM below the luxury tax line, Bobby Marks of ESPN notes (via Twitter).
The news regarding Crowder coincides with an injury update from the club. Trey Lyles has a Grade 1 right calf strain after undergoing an MRI, James Ham of The Kings Beat relays (Twitter link). He’ll be reevaluated in three-to-four weeks.
Lyles has appeared in 18 games this season, including two starts. He’s averaging 5.4 points and 3.9 rebounds in 19.6 minutes per game.
Sacramento has lost its last four games, dropping to 8-10 on the season.
I completely forgot he was somehow still a FA…
“somehow”
He averaged 6 points and 3 boards in 23 minutes last year. He’s also lost a step on D.
I think you are being generous with that assessment of his defense. He is stuck in mud now, time waits for no one.
Wasn’t used right
He needs to be used better to get more than 3 boards in 23 minutes?
He was probably a nice fit on the Warriors too…sigh, more Podz…
Why all the Podz hate? He that bad, or you just need a hill to die on?
Starting to think Podz needs to get a restraining order. This obsession is worrying
Davey thinks Podz is “stealing” minutes from Moses Moody and that Kerr refuses, like he has done with so many other players, to develop Moody. But, ironically, Crowder would “steal” minutes from Moody.
Hill to die on
If you think Crowder over Podz is a good idea that tells us alot about your knowledge of basketball. No wonder I see people making fun of you all the time.
Interesting pick, wonder when someone will pick up Fultz, maybe the Warriors now that Melton is hurt?
Markelle Fultz is definitely an intriguing player. He’s one of the most athletic guys I’ve ever seen on a basketball court.
But his game does not equate to what the Warriors are looking for. For backup guards they like the Ty Jerome types and not the Mac McClung types.
They want steady, sure-handed, few turnovers, maybe make a shot or two.., rather than, this guy’s amazing, what a great layup or amazing no look pass.
I’m thinking Fultz gets another chance at some point. But it’ll have to be a team short on guards and he would be trying out for playing time and not so much a backup guy who is steady and sure. It’s just not who he is. I hope all this makes sense.
another dude that committed career suicide by leaving the heat…. Crowder, PJ Tucker, Nunn, Gabe Vincent, Max Strus, caleb martin, etc etc…. the heat elevate them ,they then fall on their faces.. but hey.. they got a bag some im sure they’re ok
His best year was in Boston 5 years before he played for Miami, and his decline has to do with him being 34 years old.
And to say PJ Tucker was “elevated” by Miami is silly. He’d been playing that way for a decade before he got there.
Great theory though.
@clay….. The HEAT has a knack for finding the right roles for vets they pick up on the cheap.
It was crystal clear how effective, efficient PJ was that year with the HEAT …. for a good stretch he was even leading the league in corner threes.
Jae also had a great year that bubble season.
Spo and his staff keeps it simple when it comes to vets …. KLove long sent out to die on the CAVS bench, but the HEAT uses him well, gets him to his spots.
Jae Crowder’s time in Boston? Celts made Jae into a key rotation player … but he suffered that high ankle sprain late in one season which blew Celtic’s chances. Not his fault, Celt’s were snake-bit entering the Playoffs for many years. Hopefully we’ve shaken that bad karma off!
You think the Heat “elevated” PJ Tucker? He was 36 years old during his one season in Miami.
Strus had a better year for Cleveland than he did with Miami.
Crowder had many better years than he did with Miami.
Do you watch any other teams other than Miami?
DDR is also hurt again, so the kings Def needed another forward
Dennis Smith, Danilo Gallinari, Fultz, Covington, Thad Young, Victor Oladipo, TJ Warren, Knox, Wesley Matthews, Bismack Biyombo, Marcus Morris and…….,…..I Thomas
They will all disappear forever. Voice in all dogs in heaven, you can never come back
Smith, Fultz, Covington, Victor, Knox, Bismack and Morris deserve one more chance
Anyone know Warren’s g league stats?
26.3/7.5/3.3 on 49/35/77 shooting with 1.5 steals and 0.5 blocks for the Westchester Knicks this year, over six games. Should absolutely be playing, even if it’s in a minimal role off the bench.
He is playing against college kids, grocery packers, guys that won’t taste NBA floor. Those stats equate to like 2 NBA points, either way he gives up more NBA pts than he scores.
“grocery packers”? You’re showing your age.
Any player in the Gleague could be making good money overseas.
The Kings need a “super star away from a title chance. Maybe offer Murray, Lyles, Carter and something for That Super Star. Jimmy Butler is a example
I don’t see Jimmy and DeRozan working out on the same floor. Neither is a reliable outside shooter. I think they should make a run at Markannen.
Bruce Brown for Trey Lyles/Kevin Huerter and a 1st unprotected? Gives them more depth at the wing and gives them much better perimeter defense.
Markannen can’t be traded until the offseason, unfortunately. He would have been a good pickup for a number of teams.
That’s a decent idea for Brown. I wouldn’t offer a 1st for him though maybe two 2nds. Brown starting next to Fox.
Jimmy Butler was a example. Jerami Grant in Portland is not a star but would fit well on this team too
Yes with Butler they would be the ultimate modern day midrange team
Your math ain’t mathing
Heat waive Burks and Bryant
Kings trade Huerter,Lyles,Carter, Murray, Jones, Len, cash and picks 1sts and 2nds to the Heat for Butler and Jovic*
Happy
Jake Rowder
Crowder in his day was a very useful wing either as the 5th starter or off the bench. That ceased being true a couple years ago however.

He immediately started for them in tonight’s game too
