Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has been fined $75K by the NBA for public criticism of the officiating and using inappropriate and profane language, the league announced today in a press release (Twitter link).
Following Saturday’s loss to Golden State, Edwards dedicated his post-game media session to discussing the officiating, as Dane Moore of Blue Wire Pods relayed (Twitter video link).
“F—ing terrible. All of them, besides the woman. The other two dudes, terrible,” Edwards said. “Excuses (for) the reason they call a foul, the reason they don’t call a foul, the s–t was terrible. They don’t want to talk back to my coach. They don’t want to talk back to me. I said one thing to the ref and he gave me a tech. Motherf—er told one of my teammates if I would’ve said, ‘Y’all calling a bad foul,’ he wouldn’t have gave me a tech.
“… They’re just sensitive and they’re terrible. They penalize me and (Julius Randle) for being stronger than our opponent every night. We don’t get no calls.”
While Edwards said he has had issues with the officiating all season, he made it clear he felt it was worse than usual in Saturday’s game vs. the Warriors.
“Tonight was bad,” he said. “(Golden State) was getting ticky-tack fouls and we weren’t getting nothing.”
Edwards was fined $25K by the league two weeks ago for using profane language in a post-game interview. He was also hit with a $35K fine last month for giving a Kings fan in Sacramento the middle finger.
And this is supposedly the new face of the NBA???? Using Ant’s vocabulary “Mother_fu_ _er, Please.”
Boohoo he said a potty word grow up
What a doody-head response!
You don’t understand life, do you.
The point is, Dumas, our kids are supposed to look up to him. And his responses with potty words and the N word aren’t exactly role model worthy. Have you heard Steph or LeBron say things like that during an interview? I didn’t think so. So you can you go suck yourself dry. Thank you.
Hear me out – you shouldn’t be teaching your kids to look up to sports players.
Sounds like you’re just a bad parent. Personally I don’t rely on celebrities to raise my kids for me.
Social media and the internet are 10x scarier than any words said by an NBA player, even one kids may look up to. That’s the reality of the times we live in. See Andrew Tate as an example. It’s a constant battle every parent must keep up with because basic content filters aren’t enough and companies like Google and Facebook couldn’t care less about protecting children.
I get what you’re saying and don’t necessarily disagree, but this is a drop in the ocean by comparison. And what is the NBA to do? Demarket one of the league’s best young players? Never gonna happen.
If anything, I would use it as a teachable moment. Explain to the kid that part of the reason for the Wolves current struggle is a general lack of leadership by Ant; his temperament, his maturity, his engagement are lacking. He’s not ready to lead a team, nor to be a role model yet for reasons that go beyond language. They will still like him regardless and that’s perfectly fine; he’s fun and exciting. But the lesson can be learned all the same.
Ultimately, a parent’s job is to instill good values within their children, not simply hand them a list of unacceptable behavior and leave it at that. The latter is easy; the former requires more work but is all the more rewarding for both parties.
LeBron used foul language in a recent interview about the state of the game. So maybe you should know wtf you are talking about before coming at people.
Umm…They were using that 12-letter-hyphenated word back in the 70s. So, nothing new. Relax.
Have you ever been to a game live and sat close enough to the court to hear the players talk? It’s definitely not PG LOL
Especially some of the fans … some really nasty stuff gets said to the players sometimes.
The bigger issue is his play hasn’t warranted that designation. Not this year and not in the past.
Great player who may eventually get there one day. But he still has a ways to go, on the court and in the locker room.
NBA and NFL too soft nowadays
The NBA is soft? Absolutely. The NFL? It might be more pass attack focused than what it used to be, but I don’t know about soft. I don’t think the NFL would be blowing the NBA out of the water with ratings and revenue if it was as soft as the NBA is now.
I sort of hope they fix the sliding issue for QB’s. Once they are past the line of scrimmage, I think they should be treated as a normal RB.
Go say that to one of their faces lmao I’ll wait
The only thing soft is your beer gut, while you sit on the couch and throw shade.
He’s the most consistently unlikeable player in the league.
Says you?
Obviously. Aren’t your posts by you? I’m confused by your confusion on the matter.
When Draymond Green exists? I don’t agree, lol.
Draymond Green and Dillon Brooks have entered the chat…
Kids are emulating u. U need to start keeping ur mouth shut or ur going to lose a million this year.
This is such a tired argument. Teach your kids better if all it takes is one professional athlete saying words to lead them astray. Take some ownership as a parent. Use it as a teaching opportunity instead of an excuse to shame someone.
